Not for blocks or quilts .... for video conference calls.

While watching T.V. news networks, I've been looking at the backgrounds that commentators use during their presentations.  Some show very interesting artwork, lots shows bookcases, one person showed a gorgeous stone carved fireplace somewhere in France but none have shown any quilts.

My sister was telling me the other night that she uses this quilt as her background during her calls and she gets interesting comments and they wonder if she made the quilt.  No, she says her extremely (I put that word in her mouth) creative sister made it!  LOL  It's my blog, I can do what I want! LOL

No wonder my ears have been buzzing lately!

This quilt was gifted to my sister in exchange for a needlework that our Mom did years ago.  She was very quick to jump at the suggested exchange.

She has asked me if I would make another one for myself.  Who knows, maybe one day.
If you want to read more about the making of this quilt, look for all the posts under "My Fantasy Garden".

Back to UFO's

I've been playing with hexies and had a lot of fun, but that project is winding down (applique being sewn) and it was time to dig out an oldie ufo.

This one is old .... started way back in 2006.  This is how it looked then on the rug in our basement.  This was before I had a design wall and before we had the cats because they would have posed on the top.  So long ago .....

Anyway, I got stalled on the pieced border.  One side fit perfectly but when I tried putting another side on ..... nope too long.  I don't know why and it hurt my brain to try and figure the problem.  So it got balled up and put away.
Fast forward to fourteen years later and up on my design wall it went and after trying to figure out the pieced border issue ..... nope it will just not happen.

Should it have part pieced border with the blue on the outer edges?  Nope, it doesn't look right.

So, I will instead put a blue border and an outer green border and call it a day.   I just want this top done and move on to something else.  This top no longer excites me but maybe after quilting, perhaps I will love it again.

The more I look at the change in border, the better I like it.  Perhaps this is what should have been done in the first place?  Simpler = better?

Flower sewing

This will be the layout of my flowers ..... love, love, love them!  For one of the borders, I'm thinking of doing crazy patches for something different.
For a bit of tease, these are my latest quilts back from the LAer.  No binding, no sleeves, no labels yet but I just had to pin them up so that I can drool over them!  LOL
Another top is in the process of getting ready to go to be quilted.  Right now, I'm down to seven tops still in the queue and slowly but surely they are getting attended to.

With the Covid virus taking its' toll on world population and my sister's cancer scare, things are placed in perspective and if I want to enjoy a quilt now, then best thing is to just get them quilted.  No sense in leaving them as tops for my family to deal with.

I keep putting aside ones that I should hand quilt ..... but will I ever get to them?  There are tops that have been sitting for years and years waiting for me to do my magic.

If I want to enjoy and see my tops as quilts on the wall or over a banister or on a quilt ladder, best get them quilted by someone else.   I do have a lovely collection of hand quilted quilts and those I cherish more and more as time goes by.

More mask making is happening.  Word has gotten around to neighbours and they are asking my husband (he is always outside) if I would be willing to make them some.  Absolutely!  One neighbour has gifted me with some fish that he and his daughter recently caught.  I tried to say that he didn't have to give anything to me in return because their health is more important than money, but he insisted.  Those fish will be such a treat.

There is so much controversy about mask wearing.  For the record, I do wear a mask when out in public.  My health, my husband's health, my family's health is very important to me.   I prefer to have everyone alive and healthy than sick or dead.  Life cannot be reversed.  Think about it.  I have and that is why I wear a mask.

Hexie panels

Yeah, at last ..... my hexie panels are done.  I started making the hexies Apr. 6 and put in the last stitch last night.  Not bad!
You can now see what the flowers will look like in between each panel.  I'm very happy with how it looks.  The job of prepping the leaves and stems is now taking place.

Two days ago, we had the remnants of Cristobal come through and with it came wind and rain and a change in temperature.  Tonight, it is supposed to go down to 1C (33.8F).  Chilly weather for a few more days and then it will start to climb up again.  As long as we don't get frost (there is a frost advisory for tonight), we will be ok.  Today, I went and did groceries and was sure glad to have on a warm jacket.

Hexies away

For my hexie project, two panels have now been done.
About another week and the last panel on the left should be done.

There is so much talk about the new blogger format.  I'm writing this post using the new format.  The only thing that I couldn't do was find the icon for NEW POST.  I had to go back to my old format and click onto the icon and then go back to the new format to do this post.

Loading the photo was ok but to enlarge the photo was a tad tricky to find.  Eventually, I did and that is good.

So, for now, it is not bad to get around.
