Tumbler Topper

Say those words fast.  LOL

Anyway, my tumbler is now a top!  Oh, happy days are here again ....

My original fabric for the borders were discarded.  They just did not suit the look.  Going through my stash, this stripe is better, much better.

This plain red for the outer border is perfect.  The size of this top finishes at 86-1/2" x 90-3/4".  What started as a Bonnie Hunter leader/ender project ended up being sewn together very quickly.  I just couldn't wait to see the top done and I'm glad that I didn't wait.
What is up next for borders?  My apple core.  Stay tuned for a photo of this top.

Oh yes, Happy Days Are Here Again!

Have a great day!

Getting there

My tumblers are all sewn together.  They just need borders.  Borders, borders, borders ... the story of my life.  :o)

I have quite a few tops that just need borders and that is something that will get rectified soon enough.

Anyway, after playing around with fabrics, I do believe this will be the final selection.  Now, to just get them cut and sewn on.  Oh procrastination .... go away!
Have a great day!

Just tumbling along

Well, great strides has been done on my tumbler project.  I just couldn't wait any longer by treating this project as a leader/ender.  I was anxious to get it done.  So, on that note, since my tumblers had all been cut out, it was just a matter of pinning them onto my design wall.

Since that went quickly, it was time to start sewing the rows together.  Here is my top section all sewn together.  Very nice.

Then the middle section got worked on.  That too, went together quickly.
Here is the top and middle sections sewn together and the sides trimmed.  Another couple of days and the bottom section should be done too.
Yep ... I'm just tumbling along ....

Have a great day!

Apple Core Centre

Well .... not much has been happening here lately for quilting.  DH and I have been busy working on other projects.

At least my apple core centre got assembled.  Just outer borders are needed.  Oh happy days!

Do any of you get why my inner border is red?  It was chosen to resemble the outer skin of a red apple.  Clever, eh!?  :o)

The other thing that has been worked on are my tumblers.  This whole side has been sewn into rows but the rows are not sewn together just yet.
Have a great day!

Just one more ...

.... section and this Apple Core centre will be done!  Oh my, I can taste it!
Would you like to see what else is on my design wall?  Tumblers and my triangles.  There will be a long post coming up on my triangles.  There have been questions about them and they need to be answered.
Lately, I have been busy cutting out beige tumblers for the remaining three sections.  The borrowed template needs to go back to my friend Jeanne.  The tumblers are my leader/ender project (Bonnie Hunter has a sew along right now on her blog).  The tumblers are coming together slowly but surely.  A few sewn together here and there and viola a section is done before I know it.  This kind of surprise is most welcome.
Have a great day!

Tumbling along

I've taken up the leader/ender project that Bonnie Hunter is doing.  A tumbler quilt has been on my to-do list for quite some time.
Borrowing a template from a friend has helped speed up the process.  Thanks Jeanne.  My strips of fabric are 3-1/2" and I just place the top of the template on one of the edges and trim on two sides of the template.  Same process is repeated for the red fabrics.

Left over strips of red fabric will be cut into 3-1/2" squares for a charm quilt.  Since I was cutting the red fabric up, I might as well cut out squares at the same time and they will become another leader/ender project in the future.  Smart, eh!

Using my scrappy method, the tumblers are being cut out and placed in the four different containers.  Section A is up on the design wall in the top photo.  This way, it will have a uniform look.  This method has been used quite a few times now and it really works for me.  My scrappy quilts will never fit into the true definition of scrappy because a lot of my fabrics show up at least four times in my quilts (one for each section).  Does that bother me?  Not a bit.  These are my quilts and I will do whatever my heart desires.
This will be a twin size quilt.  Red and beige to go with my other quilts of the same colour.

Did I have to start another project?  Nope.  I just wanted to do this one.  Besides, it is a leader/ender project.

Have a great day!
