First Finish

Well, one of those five quilts is done!

It was dropped off to my neighbour this morning.  She is recovering from surgery and she will find comfort with this quilt.

Top size: 62-1/2" x 74"
Finished quilt size:  60-1/2" x 72-1/2"
Started:  May 2017 and finished January 2018.
Machine quilted by me using a simple grid pattern.  Simple but effective.

So, one done .... four more to do.

Have a great day!

Five quilts ....

... to bind!
All machine quilted.  One by me and the others by a LAer.  The quilt (second on left) will be first up.  Binding is already sewn on.
These should keep me busy for a while!

Have a great day!

Doing a bit of applique.

I'm moving forward on the borders for my hexie top.
The left hand side is done.  Making progress.  It feels so good to get this far so quickly.
I do like this filigree border look ..... actually quite a lot.  This is something that I will be playing with in future quilts.  Yum, yum!

Have a great day!

Thinking ....

Oh my .... so many thoughts are flitting through my brain.  Border designs.  For my hexie top, I wanted something airy and different.  Hmmm ..... yes, this works!   What you see is a paper mock-up, but I do have enough of the navy inner border fabric to do the applique.
Only one more flower to do and then I can start stitching the bottom section to the main section.  Then, I need to get serious about these borders.  A good start!

Have a great day!

Hexies and January quilts

I am making great strides with my hexie project.  Just three more flowers to do and then I can start to play with top and bottom applique borders.  Thoughts and ideas are flitting around in my head right now.  More photos will be coming soon on that.  I am on a mission!
Since this is January and most of my Xmas quilts have come off the wall, I thought you might be interested to see what quilts are on the wall for this month.

In our foyer, these are what you see as soon as you enter our home.

On one dining room wall:
These are on the opposite side of the dining room.

In the living room looking towards the foyer.
When the sun shines on a cold winter day, our living room is blissful.  Cosy and warm.  This is where I do a lot of my computer work.
So, this is what our receptions rooms look like in January.

We have ordered new living room furniture (sofa and love seat).  Our cats did their best to destroy the arms and fronts of these pieces and as much as I have trimmed the shreds, it looks awful and it was time for new pieces.  This set was found on Kijiji and didn't cost very much and now that we no longer have pets, it was time to treat ourselves.  So, February will see new furniture and different quilts on the walls.

I can't show my studio as it is a MESS right now!  I've been busy and when I'm busy, well, fabric seems to explode out of their bins.  A mess means I'm very happy!!  LOL

Have a great day!

Snowballs and hexies

I'm pleased to say that my snowball blocks are coming along nicely.  After buying my new iron, a bunch got done.  Only three more blocks on the bottom to do and this side is done.  I'm debating whether to add two more rows or not to the length.  The additional rows will enable this quilt to go from a lap size to twin bed size.  We will see.
My hexie project has grown in the last few days.  This photo was taken on Jan. 1.
This photo was taken on Jan. 4.
This photo was taken today Jan. 6.  What a difference a few days make!
These will be my border fabrics.  Love that paisley fabric.
So, while it has been brutally cold up here in the Great White North, I have been hunkering down in my studio and sewing up a storm.

Have a great day!

A new start

No .... I'm not starting anything new just yet .... but there is something coming up soon .... more on that later.

2017 was a good year.  I started the year with 31 tops waiting to be quilted.  To date, the total is 19 with 4 tops at a LAer for her to do her magic.  Like I said ... a very good year!

So, this is my record for me to look back at the end of 2018 and see just how well I did.  I still have 2 quilts that need binding (they are not on this screen photo) and they will be done during the month of January when is is minus crazy outside and I need something on my lap to help keep me warm.

Now, in the UFO department .... yikes .... my count is 40!  That total will only grow.  I really do plug away at some of them.  Just not fast enough for my liking.  Now, how many of you out there in quilt land have that many or even more ufo's?  I know that there are a number of you who can keep me company.  Yep, you know who you are!

A record of all my quilting items are on my computer and I like to glace at them often to decide what really should get done.  A visual aid helps me a lot better than a piece of paper.

So, am I going to put down on paper my goals for 2018?  Not a chance.  I have burned myself way too many times on that.  LOL  Live and learn!  I will just plug away at these tops and ufo's and see how well I do.  That is all that I'm going to do.

What am I working on right now?

My snowball project.  Not much has changed since I last showed this.  Four blocks did get done, but when I went to iron them, my iron went caput.  So, I will need to replace that item soon.
These hexagons that I won way back in 2009 from Marcie Patch.   Hi Marcie!  Marcie doesn't blog anymore but she still designs quilts that appear in quilting magazines from time-to-time.  My intention was to make a queen size quilt and fabric to match that era of her fabrics were found.  Then, they sat in a bin until now that it has been decided to just make a big lap quilt.  There will be applique borders on the top and bottom to make the quilt a good length.  The extra fabrics that were purchased will instead be used for a backing.
What else?

A triangle quilt for a niece.  The colours were given to me and into my stash I went looking to see what could be pulled.  A few f/q's were purchased to help round out the look.
 A simple triangle quilt.
With a twist!  Ah ha ....
So, that is all right now.  Lots to keep me busy during our cold winter months ahead.

I did receive a few quilty items for Xmas.

Isn't this sign amazing!  My niece made it for me.
Another niece gave me these socks.  They make me chuckle.
Have a great day and a great year!
