Circle Borders

A few more rows have been done on my circle top.  The bottom section is done, but not sewn together yet.  There may be some moving around after all the circles are sewn.   Also, a few more pieces were added to the borders.  This project will see me to the end of cottage season.

I seem to be on a piano key border kick lately.  This is such a good way to use up my stash!

Red Sampler is done!

My "Red Sampler" is now a top!  So thrilled how it turned out.  I did take some liberties with the blocks and substituted some of the 6" blocks.  Thank you, Lori Holt from Bee In My Bonnet for having this quilt-along.

I'm still itching to continue using up my red stash and there just might be a new project in the works.  LOL

The last few weeks has seen my sister and I (there are other family members there too) busy at her youngest daughter's new home.  She has been doing a bit of cleaning (not too much since she is still recovering from her chemo treatments) and I've been caulking and painting.  After a couple of hours we are pooped and leave.  That has been our schedule during the week.  On the weekends, we escape to the cottage for a break.  Soon, all the work will be done and then I can get back to doing some serious sewing!

Power out!

Our area experienced a bad storm on Tuesday this week.  What do you do when the electricity flickers on/off and then goes out for about 3 hrs. and all you have is the natural light from the window to see?  Well ..... applique, why not!  That is exactly what I did.

Six rows are now done on my circle top.  For some reason, I just can't get a good photo of this project on the design wall.
Oh well ....

Red Sampler - Blocks done!

Well, I'm not going to wait any longer.  All my blocks that I want to do are now done.  Any more blocks can go on the backing.  There are a few misfits because of fabric chosen and they will be perfect there.  Sewing of the rows has commenced and I will be happy to finally have this project as a top and off my design wall.

My "I may have started a new project" is working and this is my cottage project for now.  The bottom row has all the circles appliqued on.
The summer heat has finally arrived up here.  What crazy weather we have been having.  From heat to wearing jackets outside.

We had a small family gathering last week and we stayed outside the entire time.  Everyone has been double vaxxed and we had an ice cream cake to celebrate!  The last time our family group saw each other was back in December 2019.  It has been a long time.

Cottage Days

My sister and I were recently at our family cottage for a few days.  The weather had warmed up a tad and the rain finally stopped allowing us to take a trip out.  We are extremely grateful for the rain because our area has been quite dry and we were fearful of some forest fires breaking out.

While out there, the hummingbirds kept us entertained by the hour.   You can just barely see a tail on the left hand side of the feeder.  They come and go so quickly.  We have two feeders hanging off our screened in porch and the birds had our heads going back and forth.  Too funny!

An oldie, but goodie ufo got pulled out and worked on.  These are the last two leaf blocks to do and then the corner stones are up next.  More on this later as this is my next ufo to finish up.  If you are impatient, you can go to my label (at the bottom of this post) called "Almost Amish" and scroll through my posts on them.
Oh dear, I may have started a new project!  LOL
Lastly, hubby and I got our second Pfizer vaccine shot!  Now, all members of our family (except one)  are fully vaccinated.  We will still continue to wear our masks and keep our distance when out in public and amongst others that we don't know.  This covid is not over yet.

Sashings done!

All the applique sashings are now done!  Yippee!

Just three big blocks and four smaller blocks and this top will be done.

Here are a few close-ups of my border blocks.  Rail fence blocks beside the sashings and the same fabric beside the smaller blocks.
In the corners are sixteen patch blocks.
Altogether, I'm very pleased with my version and I did take some liberties with the blocks!

This morning, hubby and I took a walk around our hill garden and one side of our home.  We are having rainy weather for the next several days and the rain last night took a beating on our plants.  Another couple of weeks and our gardens will be in full bloom.  The frost and cool temps we had earlier this month took it's toll on some plants that we didn't cover, but there is always next year.
Moss on bricks .... love that!  My hubby is always trying to scrape the moss off, but I love it as the moss gives an interesting look to the patio.

This is the view from our kitchen patio door.  What a treat to see the humming birds at the feeder.

Red Sampler - week 10

This is where my project is at!  Borders are almost done!  A few more blocks have been added to the center.  This is where I choose which blocks to do as my quilt will not have all of them.  More sashings have been done.  Another 3 weeks or so and then this top can be assembled.

Today, hubby and I will be putting up my red/neutral quilts.  My plan is for this coming February and June, all my red quilts will be ready for display.  So, I best get cracking with finishing up four tops that have been hanging around a bit too long.
