Basket case

Last week, when I was at Debra’s for lunch and a sew-in, what did my eyes spot, but this beautiful expanding sewing basket (the one with the legs and handle). Many years ago, my parents had given one to me, but it was too small to hardly hold anything and it fell apart (all the moving parts that I should have looked after, went missing) and I gave it away. Oh my, how foolish of me …..

This past year, I have been looking for another one, but larger this time. I’ve been browsing the thrift stores but no luck.

So, here at Debra’s is THE basket that I have been lusting for and she wasn’t using it except as a table to put our cups of tea on. Debra had bought it from another lady that was getting rid of stuff and I (oh, lucky me) bought it from Debra. Joy, joy, joy!

It is huge and holds so much stuff in it and I have been using it since coming home with me. This basket really helps to keep my sewing area in our living room tidy.

Do you see the other large wicker baskets on the left? I bought those at thrift stores and they hold hand projects that I am currently working on. Again, they help to keep that area neat and tidy.

Now, onto another subject. Last month, Phyllis was looking for a pattern of a quilt that I showed on my blog. I sent her the pattern and in return she made this ATC. Isn’t it beautiful?
I was also able to help Elfriede with my Lover’s Knot pattern. She, in return, sent me a CD with all kinds of needlework stuff on it and a piece of fabric. Thank you, my dear friends for being so kind to me.

That is what I love about blogging ….. we help each other with projects or problems and really the world is just a click away.
Have a great day!

Hi Rose Marie,

I think my grandmother had a big sewing basket like that! It sure triggers something in a long-forgotten memory!!! :)

Yep - that's why I started a blog last year. It seems like such a great place to get inspiration and help. It's opened a whole new world for me.

I have a sewing basket like that for my counted cross stitch things. My granddaughter thinks it's a chair bz it has tapestry on the top (no legs). It's large though and I love it but I have to find a way to teach her not to sit on it! What a good friend you have to sell it to you!

First off, you know you're right there at the end where you say "That is what I love about blogging"

We do help each other. So I was thinking I'd thank you for now making me lust after of those expanding baskets. I never knew I wanted one until now. You just helped me. I'll be 40 on 12.28 - I think I know what I'll ask for. Of course if you couldn't find one no one will be able to find one either so what ever will I do? Can you help me? No! But maybe you could ummm... dare I say... make me a special block for my birthday? OMG I did not say that? Should I delete this? No. I'll leave it for shock value.

The expanding sewing basket is exactly like the one at our house growing up. I hope my mother still has it. She doesn't sew very much any more, but I bet she still has it. I will check the next time I visit her. Thanks for sharing!!

Lucky you, that's a great sewing basket! And of course you can always sit your cup of tea on top too. Blogging definitely makes the world get smaller.

Guron.. you are so right Rosemarie is a warm and kind, gentle friend. We have come in and out of each others lives a couple of times.
I am so happy that someone that cherishes something I have can enjoy it so much...
Blogging also helps us that are near by to keep up with friends when we get busy and reminds us to p/u the phone once in a while..LOL
Oh KarenD..there is no shock element in asking to have a block made for your birthday.. it is a compliment to want one..LOL

I have been looking for one of those fold out sewing baskets for many years...since I passed one up when shopping in Amish Country. After I was home, I realized I really should have gotten it. And of course, it was not there when I checked back a couple of days later. Now, everytime I am out I have myself trained to look for one of them. My husband found me a "Martha Washington" box, usuable, but just not as handy.
Someday.... Anyway, glad to see that you have one. Hope it works out well for sorting and keeping all your stitching organized.

I have wicker baskets exactly like that as well also from the thrift shop. I have a bigger square one and a thinner square one as well. I also use my to store my UFOs and stitching projects in. They are really great. Funny how we quilters think alike. I have a wooden sewing box also similar but not on legs and I keep rubber stamps in there.
