More blocks are a coming!

I've made great progress on my Pyramids/Triangles but have decided to add just one more row and fabrics have been selected.  A few more weeks and this top should be ready to be assembled.

Cottage season is closed for this year.  We had a huge gang (15) out for our Thanksgiving weekend.  Groups went out on their atv's to hit the trails and do some hunting for partridge.  Instead of a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, we had a simple spaghetti dinner.  Our three cottages on the property were full to the rim with family.

Early one morning last week, we had heavy fog that blocked the view of the other side of the lake.  So calm, so silent, so peaceful.

Also, last week, while sitting by the fire, we could see (using our flashlights) a beaver swimming in front of our cottage.  It was cutting the weeds for eating.  First time we saw that!  Wished we could have taken a photo, but it was too dark.

Cherish your day, cherish your life!

Triangles for a little one

My modern triangle quilt is done and given to my little niece for her big-girl bed.  This quilt is so different from my usual, but it was fun to work on something different for a change.

My niece (her mother) showed me a photo of a triangle quilt that she found on Pinterest and sent it to me with a selection of colours for me to follow.  She knew that I would be adding my own twist to the mix.  Yep, I sure did.  The walls in my little niece's room are all painted different colours that are in this quilt.  What an interesting idea and look.  Her room is definitely not boring and my little niece is quite proud of her room.  My sister and I babysat her on Saturday and I asked to see her room with the quilt on the bed.  My little niece scurried upstairs to her room and closed the door waiting for my sister and I to climb the stairs and when we were all ready, she opened the door with a ta-da.  So funny.
A simple grid pattern was quilted.
A striped binding finishes this quilt perfectly.
The back.  It was time to do something creative with the backing.  I've long admired quilts that have interesting backings and since there were quite a bit of leftover triangles .... well, why not do something with them.
Note to self .... if ever doing a creative backing like this, do an allover machine quilting design.  The horizontal stitching looks not too bad here.
But, when I pan out, you can see where my horizontal stitching line wavers here and there.  Oh well, it is what it is.  I tried really hard to keep the top and back straight and lined up as much as possible when basting all the layers together and didn't do too badly.
It just looks so odd to not have any borders on this quilt.

Quilt details:
Quilt size:  50-1/2" x 77-3/4" (top size 53" x 81" before washing and drying)
Started:  November 2017
Top Finished:  July 2018
Quilt Finished:  September 2018
Batting:  Hobbs poly batting

What else am I working on?

Sewing binding for this hand pieced quilt and using up more of my precious striped fabric.
Adding applique to this border.  Another EPP project almost coming to an end!
Those two items will keep me out of trouble for a few weeks.  LOL

One trunk show was done this past Monday at my night guild.  Another trunk show this coming Tuesday at my day guild and then one more trunk show and workshop in October.

For the day guild trunk show, my friend and I were asked to spend more time explaining how we did our quilts.  There was a little buzz after the night guild showing and we seem to have sparked an interest.  Oh joy!  Who else can we get hooked doing EPP?

Have a great day!

Triangles top

It was a busy weekend for me and my sister.  Babysitting two young nieces/grandchildren.  They were good, but busy.  By the end of Monday evening, we were all tired.  Everyone was very happy to see the parents back home.  Everyone.  You know what I mean!  LOL

Anyway, the final applique triangles were sewn onto this top.  This top is done and I must get busy marking for machine quilting.  Just simple straight lines.  Nothing fancy.  A little girl will be moving to a big girl bed this summer and it would be nice for her to have her quilt.
Do you remember me lamenting about not buying more of that fabulous stripe fabric?  Well, on a trip to Sudbury (1-1/2 hr. drive away from me) last week, a very quick stop into the quilt store and 2 metres more were bought.  The store owner was just in the process of closing her shop to go for an appointment, but I was able to convince her to just cut my fabric and away I would go.  She kindly did and we both left happy.
This summer will be very busy for me and I will be here, there and everywhere.  Posts will be sporadic.  Hand projects will be coming with me on my trips and there will be some progress to report on.  Cleaning up some ufo's time.

There are a LOT of forest fires north of us here in North Bay.  BUT at our cottage, the access roads just north of our road have been closed.  We are keeping a close eye on events and if the fire situation looks to be worsening, we will drive to the cottage and take out anything of sentimental value.  The rest will be covered by fire insurance.  Scary times!

Have a great day!

Back to Triangles

I'm back to working on this project.  Triangles.  A miscalculation in the length led to the project being shelved for a few months.  I was short 4 rows.  This is where two rows were added on the left side of the center.

The other two rows were added on the right hand side of the center.   Got to keep it balanced.  Now, I'm back on track.
When sewing the strips of triangles together, they get placed on this Styrofoam board to help keep me on track.  Still, there were problems along the way and a few .... a lot ..... got turned around and a bit of unstitching had to be done.
Only these last four rows to sew and then this section will get attached to the big section and then this top will be all sewn together.  The small triangles on the white triangles need to be appliqued and that should take me a couple of days to do.  My plan is to get this quilted asap as a little girl will be moving out of her crib into a big girl bed soon.
.... and here is the top ..... done.  It measures 53" x 81".  There will be no borders this time.  The sides of the top and bottom need to be trimmed to size, but they will get trimmed after quilting.
Those triangles that I mentioned .... well, there are 46 that need to be appliqued in place.  So, pitter patter, best get at 'er.
Surprise, surprise to me.  I won this quilt!   My SIL made it and donated it to a cause and when I saw it, I asked her to buy me tickets.  I really liked her quilt.  Well, didn't I get a phone call to say that I won this!   A welcome surprise, for sure!
Have a great stitching day!
