Trimming time ...

On my Sweet Dreams quilt, all the blocks are done, the rows put together and it is time now to trim the side and corner setting triangles. Whenever I make a quilt that is on-point, my triangles are always made a tad bigger than what is called for and then trimmed afterwards. Do you see those yellow round things at the bottom of the photo? They are weights and come in handy for holding my top in place while trimming. I bought these weights (pkg. of 4) but a couple of canned goods will do the job quite well too. Here is my centre portion of this flimsy. Just need to add borders to finish this top. Yeah, another flimsy almost done! :o)

Have a great day!

Wow is that a pretty quilt top!! I love the idea of weights! I can never seem to remember to bring something to the table to hold my top down while trimming. Those would fit in the drawer with my rotary cutters. Where did you find them?
Blessings,
Mary Lou

Oh, I just love how this turned out! It's a nice twist to have the blocks be a little plain and have the sashing and cornerstones shine!!

In stitches,
Teresa :o

By the time I get that far, all the fabric has been used in the triangles and there is nothing left to cut off.
Can't wait to see the borders!

Oh my, hasn't that quilt turned out beautifully! I use oversized triangles too, it's much easier to trim a little back than be short. Cans of salmon or tuna make good weights too!

I just discovered your blog. I spent the day reading the whole thing! All those quilts, all that quilting and I am exhusted!
I really enjoy your blog and love that you show how you do things. Since I am a new quilter I need people like you. I am wondering about something you said "waxing your thread". I could never find a post on what that was and how it is done.
I will be back!

This is awesome. So many ideas that one can find on the net... not too sure how to go about making the sashing as beautiful as you have but am willing to learn

I am going to a retreat next week where that quilt hangs on the wall. It is still on my to do list, and I still have the book. Just love yours; it's beautiful.
