Early Quilts (before starting my blog)

I have been making quilts for a very long time.  Over 40+ years but when asked, I say that my quilting really started in early 2000.  Before that time, knitting, crocheting, needlework and clothes sewing took up a lot of my time.

Here is a taste of my early quilts.  Most if not all of these have been hand quilted.  Oh, those were the days!  Enjoy.

Baby quilt using motifs from a children's colouring book (I still have that book).  You will see a number of quilts made with these motifs.

Below, my first attempt at machine quilting (pre-walking foot days) and I hated it.

My first Lone Star quilt using a cardboard template and scissors to cut out those diamonds.  Oh my word, those were the days.
What was I thinking with this quilt?  It was my first attempt at using a panel and what you see is a street scene.  Yikes.  What was I thinking?  My nephew loved it regardless.  Bless his heart!
My first 'quilt-as-you-go' quilt.  That was an experience.  Today's method is the same, but techniques have improved.

Hand quilting with black thread and on back fabric.  Yikes, that was hard to do.
My 15-seconds bit of fame.  My photo appeared in Fon's & Porter magazine.  Way back then, I was changing quilt patterns to make my quilt different and I was definitely playing around with designing borders.  This was the start of something wonderful.
This quilt is one that I do not like at all.  Sadly, I still have it and it is hand quilted to boot.  It was the layout of the fabric that is still bugging me.  Never again will a pattern be followed if it is not to my taste.

Our 25th anniversary quilt to my husband and I.  This is now my Xmas quilt that has to go up in our dining room each year.
I've done a number of Trip Around the World over the years and this is still one of my favourite patterns.

Well, that was quite the walk down memory lane for me!

I keep a quilt journal and my husband was diligent in taking photos of me and my quilts over the years and I am so happy that he insisted in doing that for me.  A record of me and my quilts.  Wonderful!
