The little quilt that Grew

Originally, this quilt was to be wall size …. but it dictated otherwise. This is what I have been working a lot on lately. There are just four more blocks to do and then time to tackle the borders. Doing borders is a drag and they tend to stall me; but I am anxious to get to the top stage.

The Lover’s Knot blocks are so numerous that they no longer fit onto my design wall in my studio. I had to move everything upstairs to my dining room (the table and chairs all had to be moved out) and pin the batting holding all the blocks onto a quilt that is currently hanging on the wall. This way, I can get a good view and switch any blocks that don’t belong and hopefully achieve a balanced look throughout the quilt. So far they all look good. There may be a few blocks that are a bit on the bright side. I will leave them in as they give the quilt a bit of punch.

LOL …. Don’t I look comfy on the floor? Getting up and down just isn’t as easy as it used to be and while I was down there, my DH snapped a photo of me.

Have a great day!

It looks terrifc Rose Marie. Amazing how a quilt can tell us how big it wants to be.

Ah...looks like you have considerable talent yourself, Rose Marie! This is a beauty. Amazing hand piecing work. This is going to be "the" family heirloom. I'm glad that it will be big enough for a person to snuggle underneath it. Look forward to seeing what you do for the borders.

Your wallhanging grew into a very pretty quilt! I love it. I know what you mean about getting up and down. I have to think really hard before crouching down in the supermarket...

Oh, this is gorgeous!! So what if it grew a "little bit"? ;o) Enjoy the last blocks, and hopefully those borders will just fall into place!

Hope you have a great weekend!

WOW what a beautiful quilt - I remember when you were posting photos of the block whilst away and can't help but think of the memories that are stitched into it
I'm with you re basting on the floor its awkward and far from ideal - just let me share something I found during the week - check out youtube quilting tips - Sharon Schamber has 2 videos on hand basting that I think have cracked the problem - the top I've basted will now be taken apart and redone this way (I knew there was a reason that I'd not started quilting it yet - something was making me nervous I just knew it could be tighter and flatter)
I look forward to seeing posts of the finished quilt
