Baby Quilts – way back when

Here are a smattering of my first baby quilts that I made eons ago. I have to smile when I look at these photos …. lots of memories there. The furnishings, the hair, the wallpaper, etc. Yes, way back in the 70’s.

Well, how did I do these? Colouring books were used for the various images and all these were done using needle turn applique (which I really hate doing now). The eyes, etc. were embroidered on. All these are hand quilted. Back then (over 30 yrs. ago) there wasn’t much in the way of patterns and cottons were hard to come by; so there is a lot of poly-cotton used in these quilts.

Yes, those were the days! :o)

Those are some great golden oldies!!! Funny how our tastes of what we enjoy working on (needle turn applique) changes over the years!!

And I do remember those days too. Bell bottoms, hip huggers...and they're back.

Cute, cute, cute quilts. And I think they are timeless. Re the poly-cotton, I don't know why we don't use it as quilters. I seem to have taken the "you must use 100% cotton and only this" rule without question.

Those are really cute. They look beautiful. Do the babies you made them for still own them?

isn't it wonderful to reflect and pull out what you have done and what you are doing...brings you back to the basics doesn't it?? if you don't like needleturn now...what is your preference?? do you still have the coloring books??

Your photos bring back fond memories for me too! Years ago my mother made such quilts for my niece and nephew. 13 years later when I had my first child she no longer quilted, but I do remember them.. Yours are lovely.

Hey- those quilts look familiar...in fact, I remember keeping one in my cubby at school while I was in kindergarten. It was used for the nap that was conveniently scheduled into each day....yes, those were the days!
