A little bit of this and a little bit of that ...... that is what is keeping me busy in my studio and home.
My sister and I sorted through the remaining boxes of my late Aunt's and late cousin's stuff. Some to keep, some to share amongst family, some to sell but mostly to donate. It has been a long haul but we are getting through their belongings. There was no time to sort through their apartment when the time came to close it back in late October. Covid was a hot spot in their senior residence. Two nieces and another cousin went in, packed up everything in boxes. They were scared because there were over 100 cases and over 10 deaths in that complex at that point. Everyone kept their masks on the whole time there, washed their hands a lot and used hand sanitizers. They had to call in security because seniors were coming out of their apartments (they were in lock-down) to chat with my nieces every time they exited the apartment to bring down a few items to their vehicle. The movers came in a week later and moved everything to our city. The movers had to call in security also. Some stuff went into storage and the rest came to my house. With my sister going through chemo, she was in no shape to go through boxes and make any decisions. So, those boxes have sat, and sat, and sat. It feels good to clear them up finally. The oddest things we have found? False teeth. Too many. Some were in boxes in their storage locker and some were in other boxes in the closets. When the bathroom closet was cleaned out, more false teeth were found there too but those got tossed. People, throw out your false teeth. If they don't fit, don't keep them! LOL Just saying .....
Batting. All the batting odds and ends have been sorted and binned ready to piece. One frankenpieced batting has already been assembled (number two) and will be used soon. I'm keeping count of the number that gets pieced.
On the sewing front ..... the project on the left, the sewn rows are being joined together. On the right, still deciding about borders.
Binding is happening on this quilt!
Love, love, love the plaid binding! There are still applique that has to have some outline hand quilting done on them. I do this to help anchor the applique in place. It is a 'me' thing. Not everyone who has their quilts quilted by a LAer does this. In a few weeks' time this quilt can be shown.
In about five to six weeks, cottage season will be here and we are now starting to gear up for that. The snow here is almost gone. We have had warm temps and rain. Our hill out back of us is bare of snow. Some perennials are starting to sprout. My hubby put out dryer sheets wherever the tulips have been planted. Hopefully, the sheets will deter the deer from eating the tulips when they start to grow. Apparently, deer do not like the smell of the sheets. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Moles are having a field day with the lawns on our street. Hubby put down some chewing gum in their holes. The moles love but can't digest the gum and they die. Juicy fruit gum is what they prefer. Hubby gave them peppermint as that is what we had on hand. It has been about a week now and no new holes.
So, that is my life at this moment in time. A little bit here and a little bit there.
