A Trip Around the World

How many of you have done a Trip Around the World quilt? So far, I have done three and another that is a variation of the design.

What is it about this design that appeals to us all?

For this quilt, there is machine quilting in the ditch and the border is hand quilted. In some of my quilts I do both machine and hand quilting. It really depends on my mood and what I feel like quilting at the time. This quilt is queen size and it is currently gracing our bed.

Have a great day!

I have to say the same as the previous two ladies: never done one! But i love the look of the Trip Around the World pattern, and the one you have made is beautiful!

I have actually done one in a class that I took with a friend but it had bad memories because the instructor was not very nice and so I gave it away. I love the colors in your trip.

Wow! I've made so many I've lost count. Let me think... my very first quilt, done all in solid blues, that was a challenge. A King size in "Earthtones", that says how long I've been quilting (since '82). Three, no four baby quilts... two wallhangings, two class samples, a wedding gift, a pillow... How many is that? This might be a great blog idea! Photos of each. I love the hq'd cable in your border. Great!

Lovely. I love the pattern mostly for the name, I think. Just made a tiny one for a xmas gift - will post photos in January!

It is beautiful! I have made three of these quilts and have loved them all. It’s something about how striking the design is, it really is attractive :D Congrats!

Hmmm... I've done two straight-up ATWs, and three variations on the idea.

I like the blues and greys you used here; gives it a kind of relaxed, kind of formal feel, if that's not contradicting myself...

Beautiful! I have not yet done this design, but it is definitely on My List! Have you previously posted pictures of the others; if not I'd love to see them too. I'm interested in the fact that you combined machine and hand quilting - I like that idea but didn't know if it was OK to do that. Thanks for sharing your photo of yet another quilt.

Just lovely, I have never done the pattern, but it looks like I may have to add it to my "to do list"

I have never done one either. Did you do it square by square or in strips like a Bargello? Very nice. I like the way the gray seems to make it blurry.

I've never done one either. The colours in yours are wonderful! Think I'll add it to the list of miniatures to do -- that would make a great doll's quilt!

I made one years ago. It's still one of my mom's favorite quilts of mine. Then I have a "screwed up one." I intended for it to be a Trip Around the World and instead it looks like a 4 patch. I only used red and white...DUH.

I haven't done one yet -- but that doesn't mean that I don't have the fabrics chosen and ready to go!

I made one for a wedding gift a few years ago, used the 'tube' method (Eleanor Burns??) made it really easy but the design wall was essential to keep the strips in order.

I've made one trip around the world. It's just a great pattern to play with colors and getting great results!
