Summer Sweet UFO

Another abandoned UFO got pulled off the shelf this week.  It is time to tackle replacing the white sashing over to the bright blue sashing.  I did start the process about a year or two ago, but dumped it in favour of something more interesting because, let's face it, unsewing is not a good thing.

When I assembled the blocks (way back when), my basement floor was my design wall and everything looked fine up close; but once I acquired a design wall and could view the overall look from a distance, this quilt top did not give me happy thoughts.  Everything looked .... well ..... too white.  Now that the bright blue is getting installed, this quilt top is starting to sing to me.  That blue is helping to define the blocks and give my eyes a place to rest.  So, I will plod along and just get it done and free up another bin.

Have a great day!

You have a great eye and such tenacity. Finishing a UFO is one thing but re-working the vision is entirely different.

These blocks are fascinating. I keep looking the over to imagine how you pieced and appliquéd. Really like the corners as well. 3/4 circles - perfect. Is this an older, elder UFO?

That is really lovely. The blue in the sashing and border is perfect.

Ha! I didn't notice the difference in the beginning. It's only when you mentioned the blue sashing that it hit me. At least you will be happy once it's all done. Looks like a big job. Good luck.
I too wanted a close=up of the block. Are the flowers one fabric or pieced?

I really like both ways white or blue. It is your applique that sings to me, the inner and applique is a wonderful design and your fabric choices are beautiful.
Soon it will be spring, when are you going to start quilting all these finishes next winter?
Oh I decided next winter I will hybernate in your quilting sanctuary.

I must agree I do like it better with the blue, but oh so much work! You are a brave soul, hard enough to tackle an old project but to change fabrics out is really really brave! FYI, it will be gorgeous so my hat goes off to you,

What a beautiful quilt. You are very ambitious to change out all that sashing.

If you are not happy with your quilt before it's quilted, then now is the time to change it......and I for one like the change! Unsewing is a bit tedious, but better to do it now. That's a very interesting block design.

Such a gorgeous quilt. I love it as it is...but you are right, the blue adds something special to it.. you do lovely work.

Oh I agree - the added blue is just the right touch. The quilt is beautiful and I am so glad you are now pleased with the overall effect. Things like that drive me nuts when its "just not right" but I have trouble putting my finger on what is not right about it.
