Simple hand quilting

You all know how much I love hand quilting and still try to keep a hand in keeping that method alive. Over at Caron Mosey's blog, there is a list of hand quilters who are linking their blogs to a post that she did about hand quilting and how it is slowly but surely fading away. Sadly, hand quilting is going, going but not gone. Die-hards like me and others will ensure that it stays around. From time-to-time, machine quilting will show up on some of my quilts, but I save special quilts for hand quilting. So, hop on over to Caron's blog and go visit all those other hand quilters and help celebrate hand quilting. Since this post is about hand quilting, you should see some of my hand quilting up close. A lot of you have already seen my Klosjes (spools) quilt but you will be interested in seeing some photos again ..... right? :o)

The following are close-up shots ...

Whenever a basted quilt is on my lap (in a hoop or by itself), one of my girls always shows up to see what I've been up to ....

.... and sometimes, both girls show up at the same time. They know when it is time for me to take a break and sit back and relax and perhaps we all can have a snooze.

It is fall here and that is always the time to have a hand quilting project on the go. There are so many to choose from; but one top will get basted ready for those cool/cold nights that soon will be popping up. I know the girls are waiting for a new quilt.

Have a great day!

Thanks so much for sharing all your lovely hand quilting. It is absolutely what makes your quilt so great. I too exclusively hand quilt. It is the process I enjoy most about making a quilt. I sure hope Carol Moser's website can encourage others to try hand quilting, if only they knew how therapeutic hand quilting can be.

Thanks for the info. I LOVE hand quilting. I just taught a class in Sept, it filled up (six) so we are running it again in a few weeks, (full again) and then we are going to offer it in the new year. I always have a hand quilting project on the go, even though I longarm for others.

You do a great job of promoting handquilting, which is something I haven't tried. I am leaning towards handquilting my grandmother's garden quilt though... but I do need to finish it first and get some lessons!

Hand quilting it is. Got one on the frame now. It was basted and I could have done it on a hoop but there's just something about it being on a frame that I like. It's not eventhat big.

I'm so happy to see your klosjes quilt again and to see the quilting up close. I thought it a fabulous idea for Caron to promote hand quilting, the button is starting to spread on blogs.

No doubt about those kitties......they do like their comfort! Hand-quilted quilts are soft and cuddly.

There are never too many pictures of the klosjes quilt. I am still trying to join with a link but I am a whole lot better at quilting by hand than doing computer stuff.

I think your hand quilting is lovely! I am still working on my paperpieced hexies....and its taken me almost 2 years and Im not even done a third of it. As much as I enjoy the process, I just wish it didnt take so long. Its going to look great when its done though. I might have to try klosjes if I ever get the hexagon one done first.

You do such lovely work! This quilt is awesome. Cats have a sense that draws them to fabric. Mine do the same thing.

This quilt is simply stunning. The pattern and the quilting are really beautiful and that border just tops it all off. Nicely done!

I printed the pattern for the spool quilt. Did you machine or hand piece each block? If you did it by machine, what order did you do the pieces in? Thanks for any help you can give me.
