Bordering Decisions

Thank you for all you lovely comments .... my basket quilt has certainly sparked a bit of interest.

A number of you have asked about the pattern. It was designed using EQ6 software program. I was inspired to make my version after seeing all the gorgeous basket quilts out in blogland and I just had to have one too.

While I'm in the process of sewing the basket blocks together, the time has come to think about borders. After playing around in EQ6, here are a few versions that I could go with.

#1 - 9-patch blocks in the outer borders #2 baskets and vines
#3 just a plain border

#4 scrappy blocks

Oh dear, decisions, decisions ... problem is, I love them all!!!! Yikes!
Have a great day!

  1. Your basket quilt is just too cute. Have you already made the nine patches? For some reason they just seem to overwhelm the baskets to me.

  2. That is neat to be able to see the quilt sort of done. I like the first the best.

  4. They all look great and I'll wait with bated breath to see what you choose. I don't want to influence you with my personal favourite.

  5. I like those nine patches but #4 is also nice and a bit calmer. Many years ago I made a snowball quilt and was half way through piecing a ninepatch border when I spotted a floral stripe print in a shop that was just the right colors and width. I was always glad I abandoned the former idea for the latter.

  6. I was attracted to #1 firstly but having looked at the other options I prefer #4 - #1 seems to become somewhat over powering with all the nine patch blocks
#2 just doesn't gel quite right
    and #3 is too plain

  7. I like versions 3 and 4. I'm sure what ever you chose will be right for you. :-)

  8. You could always make 3 more quilts so you can do all 4 of the border designs - I'm now ducking, quickly!

  9. Wow! Stunning! I am sure you will pick the right one, but if I was making this quilt I would go with #4.

  11. I like the plain border. I think it highlights the baskets best.

  12. I really like the plain border the best. It is a nice resting place for the eye before it goes back into the center to look at the baskets again.

  13. I'm working on a similar project based on a basket quilt in a Blackbird Designs book. I love #3 (similar to something I was thinking about for mine) because I think the 9-patches are an excellent choice for the outer blocks. I like #1 for the same reason, #3 is just a little calmer. Both are lovely...actually all 4 are lovely. How nice to see it visually before you drive on to the finish in real life! I'm glad it's you making the decision instead of me!

    In stitches,
    Teresa :o)

  14. Not intended to try and influence you - I'm just interested to note that I'm the only one who liked the vines.

  15. I like number 3 best. The plain border puts the emphasis on the baskets and all of your hard work. All the others seem to take something away from the middle.

  16. Great basket quilt!! I prefer the vine border and the plain border best. They don't distract from the baskets and the nine-patches in the quilt. Will be anxiously awaiting your decision :o)

  17. Most of them have voted for the first and its really nice but I also like the third one since it is simple and sweet...
    Lovely quilt!!

  18. I like number 3. I like the 9 patches around the outside of the baskets much better than the way the quilt is shown in the book with a 9 patch here and there.

  19. I have been appliquing basket blocks for at least a year now and the plan is to use nine patches as the border too! my favorite block!
now seeing your choices I love no. 2

  21. I love your basket quilt. It looks like a major undertaking! I wish you joy while you are making it. I really liked the design with the vine in the border. I am like Teresa; I think the nine patches overwhelmed the cute little baskets. Maybe if the baskets were bigger, the nine patches wouldn't be so dominating. Love the quilt!
