It has been a while since I last showed you the ladder that my DH made for me.
It has been painted and a few quilts thrown on it just to give you an idea of how it turned out. This is not the space it will eventually find a home ….. I just wanted you to see it finished.

Now, this ladder was easy to make. No nails or staples or glue! Just primed and painted and that is what is holding this whole piece together …. just primer and paint in the grooves to keep the rungs in place! It is possible down the road that I may have to do some repairs; but we’ll see how long it lasts like this.

ReplyDeletegreat ladder -- I have a wood one in my garage that was really a ladder that I keep meaning to psand and paint and use, but haven't got to it yet. THe rungs feel a little narrow on it, but beggars can't be choosers :-)
ReplyDeletebe aware that wood will damage fabric because it contains, and releases, acids. The acidity causes brown spots to appear on the fabric over years. I'd recommend visiting a museum supply house to find a metallic iron-on product that will block the acidity, or find a polyeurethane [spelling is wrong--sorry] that blocks acidity [two such products are made by one company, whose name I've long forgotten], or pad the rungs with towels and then change out the towels every month or so. I'd recommend washing the towels in quilt soap before using them. This is all from a museum curator's perspective. Enjoy!

What a wonderful way to display your quilts. Right now, my quilts, not on display are laying over a chair. This would be a perfect way to display them in my familyroom. Thanks for the great idea.
