Once you have done that, let me take you back to the beginning and how this quilt got started. Over the years, I have been buying up charm packs and these were the leftovers. What I call ugly fabrics .... you know the ones that just don't fit in with what you were doing. Big prints and stripes. They could have been trashed or given away; but they ended up in a bin. One day last November, I started pulling out all of those charms and was amazed at the number that were found. More than 176 to make the above quilt and there are still leftovers.
Pinwheel blocks were what these fabrics needed to be made into and I got started on them right away.
Ummm ... what would some circles look like on the blocks? Yes, love what is happening here!
Since this quilt is intended for the cottage, machine quilting was the way to go. Simple straight line stitching was done throughout ..... even into the borders.
The back shows the gridwork well.
This was my ugly duckling quilt but in the end ...... my new quilt has charmed me instead!
I've been Charmed too!! LOVE! LOVE this quilt!! Well done!
ReplyDeleteWe must be on the same wavelength...I just made a bunch of pinwheel blocks with some leftovers from a BOM! I like the circles in yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful quillt. I love the coziness of it.
ReplyDeleteI love your new quilt!
ReplyDeleteCharming indeed! Love the surprises that come out of nothing! Did you have a pattern for the Winter quilt on the top of your blog? My email is hughesjeanne@hotmail.com.
ReplyDeleteOoh! Yum. If you get tired of it, send it this way. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love it! What a great idea to use the pinwheel block and the circles add to it quite nicely.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous quilt!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it!! There's a lesson for us here regarding those 'ugly' little bits of fabric!! The quilting is effective too. Thanks for the talk through this quilt.
ReplyDeleteWhat a satifactory process, turning unloved fabrics into something very lovely. Well done. No wonder you were charmed!
ReplyDeleteI think both of these quilts are quite lovely! And you can seldom go wrong with pinwheel blocks :)
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking of doing with the quilters' candy that I have acquired over the years. Minus the circles, though.
ReplyDeleteYou are busy if you've managed two finishes and packing to move.
I love this as well Rose Marie you have done a fantastic job..
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely finish! You have made a great start to the year.
ReplyDeleteYou may consider the fabrics a bit ugly, but the quilt is far from being so - it's great! Love the backing fabric too, is it the same as on the alternate triangles?
ReplyDeleteI never know what to do with charm squares too...that's a great finish, and I wouldn't call them ugly fabrics..great job!
ReplyDeleteJulia ♥
It's amazing how all your ugly ducklings have transformed into beautiful swans. This quilt is great, and I love what a difference it made when you added some circles.
ReplyDeleteI love pinwheel quilts, but I REALLY LOVE the addition of the little circles...so sweet.
ReplyDeleteIn Stitches,
Teresa :o)
Wonderful...and what a clever and really nice touch to put the circles on. I don't think any of the fabrics are actually ugly but I would consider a few of them to be awkward! lol
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is gorgeous! Combination of colours and blocks is so lovely!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Tatyana
