Can you see the two holes just above the flower pin? They are not there anymore. I will show you how they got fixed. A - Looking around in my scrap bin, I was able to find a piece of that white background fabric. Now, that was unexpected. Guess there was a reason for keeping my scraps from previous projects. A straight cut was made from one hole to the other and the scrap fabric was cut slightly larger and inserted inside using a crochet hook.
B - the white scrap fabric was smoothed out so that it lays nice and flat.
C - Using reverse applique method, the top fabric was turned under a tad and sewn in place to the new scrap fabric.
D - Shows the repaired look. It is not perfect, but at least the holes have been dealt with and it won't enlarge over time. Sigh .... oh well, time to move on.

I was quilting my klosjes quilt and Ashes wanted in on the action. I was able to convince her to lay not on my frame but on my chair foot rest. Not too long after, Hank made her way over and things became a tad tense.
I am the first, that illusion.
ReplyDeleteHello Happy Valentine's Day, and thank goodness you've fixed the broken
you've made a passable, thanks for teaching me how to do it.
Kisses from Spain.
Mamen
And here I thought I was patient with my cats. Heaven is a place on earth.... for some cats anyway!!
ReplyDeleteHaven't you just got to love them?
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you knew just what to do to fix it! I would have freaked!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour little repair won't be noticeable. Cats are very good at making themselves comfortable, aren't they.....and everyone else has to make their own arrangements around them!
ReplyDeleteHa, we just applique a butterfly on the quilt if there is a small hole in the quilt. Why butterfly? Usually, the quilts have flowers and it just so happened that with the very first one, someone had butterfly fabric and it just went well with the look. Now it seems that we always use butterflies on boo-boos.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the whole, but that last picture of them sleeping is too funny!!
ReplyDeleteI probably would have appliqued a butterfly or bee or laddybug over the hole. I also might have banned those cats from their perch.
ReplyDeleteThat will probably become your favorite bit of the quilt over time because it holds a story. Great repair!
ReplyDeleteIn stitches,
Teresa :o)
A good repair. The addition of a leaf shape might have solved the problem too.
ReplyDeleteGreat repair! I probably would have appliqued something over top of it. Cute kitties!
ReplyDeletegreat repair job!
ReplyDeleteOnce my bit 2 holes in a quilt and I put a patch over it. Your method is much better!
your kitties are so fluffa-licious
Holey Cat Holes Batman!!! What a situation. Bad kitties.
ReplyDeleteOf course they really just wanted to be so cute and snuggly ON the quilt you're CURRENTLY working on, right? Ohhh but I do love seeing them in their best form. It's a darn shame they have to be so bad with our quilts. I love having my quilt on my bed but I have to crochet afghans to go over the top so they don't get go all Holey Roller on me!!!
Thank you for sharing the beautiful Hank and Ashes with us!!!
Ha-I can relate to the "hole in quilt made by kitty". I wasn't keen on it at first but it left me with a fun memory. LOVE Ashes' body language in the first photo - ears pinned back. Thank-you for sharing a great story and photos.
ReplyDeleteAh, you are a patient person - that you are. You did a good job mending that quilt.
ReplyDeleteI put the pattern in the mail to you today. I had your address all along in the front seat of my car!
Oh no! Well you could always applique a bee or butterfly on the spot.
ReplyDeleteAnd you just start on another project :) Those cats are spoiled.
ReplyDeleteI love the repair - great idea. It also, I think, gives something special to a quilt. It will tell people in the future that you cared enough to repair.
ReplyDeleteThe cat photos are so funny. I thought my cat was the only one that did that kind of thing. She doesn't get on the hoop, she gets under it and bumps my hand - she was to be petted, she doesn't want me to waste that energy doing something else!
Oh dear...don't let those fur babies make a hole in my favorite quilt!! They look so adorable snuggled up to you (and the quilt!)
