You have no idea the number of times that I have put down different layouts for applique. None of them appealed to me. I'm still not sure about this one, but it is growing on me the more I look at it.
The applique is being done after the quilting. This is not usual practise, but that is what I'm doing. Again, it is because I just could not decide on the layout. Did I mention that I am determined .....
.... and Hank is determined to sleep on my quilt while it is being machine quilted .... .... and while applique is being done ...
Yes, we are both determined! :o)
Yes, we are both determined! :o)
Have a great day!
What a beautiful and interesting post. Beautiful because I love everything about your Dresden Plates, you have such a beautiful smile and Hank (well we know Hank is beautiful). Interesting because I sometimes find it hard to imagine you struggling thru a quilt. Interesting because I didn't imagine what it would be like to put applique on after the quilting is done. It fascinates me looking at that work in the border. I'm assuming that's "after" the quilting? What BEAUTIFUL border applique!
ReplyDeleteI remember a program at out guild by a woman who did all her applique after the quilting. One stands out in my mind: a navy blue quilt with white 3-D applique flowers done in an oval. Wish I could remember her name (total senior moment here). It was a beautiful quilt, as is yours.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE what you picked for the applique boarder! It is quite unique, and a perfect fit for the quilt!
ReplyDeleteI was so happy to see a Rose Marie pic....you are beautiful!!
Hank is such a cutie and it's obvious you're one of his favorite people.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great friend Hank is. LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful quilt and what a great idea to applique after the quilting is done. So far, so good!
I'm pulling for you to finish. Its such a pretty quilt. I love the little dresden flowers in your border.
ReplyDeleteThat's one comfy kitty. Beautiful applique, I can't wait to see it when it's done!
ReplyDeleteGood luck, it is a beautiful quilt!!
ReplyDeleteNow be honest.....you couldn't do it without Hank's help! Your quilt is lovely. Doing the applique after the quilting gives it substance, and you don't have to interrupt the quilting design when you come to the applique.
ReplyDeleteDetermined is good at least on your part. lol
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt at all that you will finish your challenge...looks good Rose Marie...
ReplyDeleteI love it Rose Marie..between you and Hank...you'll get it done!
ReplyDeleteJulia ♥
It's going to be beautiful, I hope you meet your goal, I'm cheering you on. You have a helper so too, that's lovely.
ReplyDeleteLOL! You do have a helper don't you. The quilt is really wonderful and I love the border applique. Here's hoping you meet your goal for New Years.
ReplyDeleteI've just had a great time browsing through your blog and have loved your quilts. You do some amazing work and I love how you can work in such a variety of colours and styles.
ReplyDeleteGreat applique border! It really goes nicely with the Dresden plates-like little Dresden plate flowers!
ReplyDeleteI've thought about adding applique after quilting but haven't tried it yet. :)
So glad you stopped off at my blog. My DWR will be hand quilted...I haven't hand quilted in over a year!
I love that border. What a great idea, using small dresden plates in that manner. You are just too smart.
ReplyDeleteHe is determined to help you :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous applique border!! I think Hank is making sure that you stay warm while you're working on the applique! :-)
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is just beautiful! I love the way the flowers are pieced with Dresden blocks. This will truely be a family heirloom.
ReplyDeleteThis Dresden Plate quilt is stunning! I've never heard of appliquing after the quilting is finished. We're you able to get it finished? I'd love to see the completed project, and a close up of the quilting.
