Quilting, knitting and word puzzles were my activities while sitting with my Mom at the hospital. She slept 99% of the time that I was with her. It gave her great comfort to see me sitting there when she woke up and then would drift off to sleep again. She would ask what I was working on and always liked what I showed to her.
My chair was very comfortable and my quilting was contained in this recycled (you know me and my thriftiness for using recycled items) Swiffer case. The size was perfect for my needs and I could throw whatever I was working on in the box in an instant and not worry about dropping pins or a needle or scissors, etc. The lid snapped on easily and stayed in place.

Block after block of the Lover’s Knot was made. This is the first time that I did hand piecing and I have to confess that it was very relaxing to do.
This is what has been accomplished so far. In a previous post, Lynette Anderson had asked if there was a pattern. There probably is and May Britt could tell us more as she has one displayed in her post. I have seen this block many times in quilt magazines and when I saw it on May Britt’s blog, I just had to make it. My pattern came from EQ Block Base (#1532) and I’m using charm squares. If you want to do the same, you will need two of the same charm squares packs. I’m using a mix of Moda and Marcus Fabric charm packs. Sorry, but I don't know how many packs have been used so far. When I get my packs, I hand wash the charms and hang them to dry and then just throw them into a bin.

My intention was to make a wall hanging; but the more I look at the blocks on my design wall, the more I want to make it into a bed quilt. Yikes, I will need more charm packs! :o)
Have a great day!

Oh boy isn't this NEAT! Love it. ;) *karendianne.
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect take-along project and it's going to be beautiful! It does seem to want to be a bed sized quilt instead of a wall hanging.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are great and will make a beautiful BED quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt will make a glorious bed quilt! The Creativ Festival is coming up -- you should be able to get some charm packs there!
ReplyDeleteRose Marie, the fabric is gorgeous and the blocks...perfect...maybe you should call this one "Mum's Quilt"...take care
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. I too think you should continue and make it a bed quilt, that way you'll have a wonderful cozy reminder of your mum.

ReplyDeleteYour blocks look fabulous, Rose Marie! I love the wall hanging May Britt has in her living roon, and this will be such a wonderful bed quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe symbolism of the block, and you working on them whiles pending time with your Mum, perfect!
Your blocks are coming together so well! They are lovely and will be perfect for a bedsized quilt!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the idea of a bed quilt! It really is beautiful and the bigger the better!
ReplyDeleteThe swiffer container is a great idea....I will be keeping mine from now on!
Such a charming quilt, both design and the fabrics you picked!
ReplyDeleteWorking by hand is so relaxing, even putting on binding. I need a project like this to sustain me at least through the hockey playoffs (I'm Canadian... we have to watch them - heehee)so thanks for the reminder to just do it!
Your quilt is so pretty and I love your take-to-the-hospital kit. I spend a lot of time with my parents at doctor's office and in the nursing home and have spent hours at the hospital, so I know what you mean. I do have a question about your block though. I would love to try this. Are the squares and center piece appliqued on or pieced in? You may have told then name of this in an earlier post, but would you mind saying it again? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOK..went back and re-read your post and I see it is the Lover's Knot. I should have read closer the first time, and I now remember seeing that in your earlier post. I am still curious though if it is all applique or pieced.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great hand project for you to work on. I am sure it gave you mum great comfort to knew that you were sitting with her.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetheart you are to be there so faithfully with your mom, I know it brought great comfort to her to know you were there. And you are making a masterpiece, there!!
