A few years ago, my SIL was making these stockings and selling them at a local craft show.
When I saw photos of them, we just had to have a pair.
They are so rich and crazy in all their glory. The backing is red velveteen and the scraps are lace and satin and velvet and ……. wonderful! :o)
Sadly, today, I learned that Connie is/was contemplating closing her blog due to lack of time for blogging. Reading the comments left on her post, a lot of us understand where she is coming from as there is a problem with time. Time to blog and time to read blogs. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had to re-organize my time spent on blogging as I found that too much time was spent at the computer and not enough time spent working on my quilting.
So, have come to the conclusion that there are 7 days in a week (not new to you, eh) and on Mondays, I will read all blogs that fall within A-C; Tuesdays will be D-G, etc. You get the picture.
There are new blogs and rings popping up all the time now and I want to be able to visit them all as well as my older blogs and I have found that by organizing my list of daily blogs to visit, there is some order of time management in place.
If one of my favourite blogs hasn’t posted in a couple of months, then it’s transferred to a monthly blog that I visit every month. This way, I’m not spending my time looking at an inactive blog.
I know there are bloglines, etc. out there that I can register with, but they have their problems too. Many of us post more than once a week and I would not be able to keep up. So for now, this method works for me.
If you have a great method for blog reading, let’s hear from you.
Have a great weekend!
I use bloglines so I'm not checking blogs that aren't updated. I spend way tooo much time reading them though. I seldom subscribe to new blogs even if they look great. There are just to many of them out there. I also don't comment on many blogs because of the time factor.
ReplyDeleteI use Google reader (much like bloglines) and find it works great. I read blogs in my "found time" -- that 5 minutes while I wait for the water to boil, the 3 minutes while I wait for DS to be ready to go out the door... by simply having a "next" button on my web browser google reader will pop up an unread blog instantly...
ReplyDeleteIf I sat down to read blogs I'd feel like I spent way too much time at the computer, but by spending a few minutes throughout the day its just there ;-)
I've just started using Bloglines in the past few weeks to try and keep up with reading. It does seem to help. I've also organized the lists of blogs within bloglines as well -- I have folders for those I HAVE to read as soon as there is a post as well as those I can drop in on from time to time and a list of those who don't post frequently. Like I said, it allows me to keep up -- and instead of the over 200 posts I haven't read -- right now I have 8!
ReplyDeleteI make link-lists - near to your idea! Not from A - Z - but some who post more and some who post perhaps monthly. So I can read first the blogs who post more and then if it´s time, I read the others. And - very important! - there is a timelimit for me! NOT more than 1 hour a day for blogs! So I use my time also for quilting and sewing!
ReplyDeleteI have to work on my quilts - because I want to show you quilts! :-)))
How can I do this if sitting the whole day at my computer?
Happy quilting

In Internet Explorer I can see, with one push of a button, every blog that has been updated. Unfortunately that doesn't work in Firefox. I don't really have a system. I do try to weed out my list from time to time but it seems it never gets shorter. As soon as I remove some blogs they get replaced by others LOL. I spend way too much time behind the computer, there are just to many blogs to read, comments to be written and emails to be answered.
ReplyDeleteI like so much visiting and looking around your blogs and even if I have no time I just write CIAO so that the blogger can understand I came and visited.
ReplyDeleteciao ciao
I go through periods of feeling like I am spending too much time online and ease off a bit. I don't use any method to read blogs, just keep them in my favorite and visit a few in the morning and a few in the evening. I know I would get more done if I didn't read blogs but that is what got me back into quilting and I get so much inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI try to keep my list short, but then I find a link on someone else's blog and that leads me to another, or I visit folks who are participating in the same projects or giveaways or something and then I'm off again. Then again, I don't always have anything interesting to say, but a visit to someone else's blog sparks a topic.
ReplyDeleteBTW, thanks for visiting MY blog in your quick travels!
Blogging does take a long time. I have been ill and though I have kept up with my own posting, my blog reading has been put aside. Being at home and having my coffe in the morning with my favorite blogs has worked out fine for me. I jump back on in the evening when the kids go to bed. I do have to make sure I do not spend too much time here. It is all about balance. I am glad Connie is planning to try, her blog is wonderful. I think your plan is a good one. I hope you stop by my blog one day a week. ;)
ReplyDeleteAfter I received all the encouraging comments regarding my post about ceasing my blog, I felt that I wanted to reconsider. I use Bloglines to manage my 'list' and it works fine, but I am the one responsible to learn some restraint about the time I spend online. When I posted that I was going to end the blog, I thought I could do it, but I found out that it wasn't so easy, and my heart wanted to keep blogging. So here I am...trying to make sense of it all. I hope you still have time to stop by from time to time. :)
ReplyDeleteLovely Christmas stocking!!
ReplyDeleteI find it is intersting to read how everyone manages their blog reading and time. I am like Joyce, I seldom subscribe to new blogs as I have a hard enough time keeping up with the ones I read already. I use a combination of Bloglines and Google Reader - but I think once I am on holiday I might figure out a way to simplify!!
I hope the weather is not too bad for you out your way - I hear you have had a bad winter storm.
Wonderful Christmas stocking!
ReplyDeleteI've got to find a way to read all the blogs I want to read and still get some work done! LOL
This is one way of organizing the time spent reading blogs, I have no special way, just spend too much time, I have to figure out how to cut down the time.
ReplyDeleteI only read the blogs at night on my laptop after I have my things pulled together for the night. It is my favorite thing to do. We have to be so careful though because 5 minutes can turn into 5 hours very easily. I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteReading some of your old posts, so I had to comment on this one. I have my blogs listed on bloglines. I have them divided into separate folders for each day of the week, and an everyday one. Helps me keep track of which ones I've read already, and keeps me from having to look at blogs that haven't updated. I have about 25-30 per day, and I don't get to them all every week, but when I have extra time, I try to go backwards to catch up.
